Memorial scholarship supports nurse education

Carole Hampton (1)

A beloved nurse’s passion for learning will live on, with an education fund established in her memory.

Carole Hampton was an integral part of the stroke unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) for 14 years before her sudden and unexpected passing last May.

Described as an ‘exceptional’ clinician who ‘epitomised nursing excellence’, Carole was fiercely passionate about nursing education and ensuring the best quality of care for patients.

To ensure her legacy would live on, Carole’s colleagues set up a fundraiser for The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Stroke, raising more than $13,000 in her memory.

All of the donations to the fundraiser have been put towards the Carole Hampton Education Fund, which will help support the professional development and education of stroke nurses at the RAH.

Lizzie Dodd, a close colleague of Carole’s, said she was a “highly respected nurse” known throughout SA Health.

“Carole was very passionate about stroke nurse education, and very against flowers, so in honour of her memory, a Stroke Nurse Education Fund was set up through the Hospital Research Foundation Group for Stroke. Many of her colleagues, friends, and family from around the world contributed to this fund,” she said.

“The donations will be used to support education for the nurses on 9G stroke unit. This will enhance their skills, knowledge, and prepare them to be become acute stroke nurses.”

Established to reflect Carole’s vision to advance education into stroke and neurological nursing, the fund will be used to support the participation in conferences, workshops, study days and other educational events.

Both enrolled or registered nurses working in the fields of stroke, neurology and palliative care will be able to apply.
